Jack Dempseys and brackish conditions?

This may seem a ridiculous question but I wanted to hear some opinions on this matter (more out of curiousity than anything)- can Jack Dempseys tolerate mildly brackish water? I have seen several articles on certain cichlids that have done well in these conditions and the Dempseys are one of them. I have a mated pair and I can attest they are all but bulletproof. Any information is appreciated.
