Should we get a puppy or rescue?

My family is seriously considering getting another dog, but we can't agree on getting a puppy or a rescue. We know we definitely want a golden retriever. My dad and I think we should get a rescue because a rescue dog needs more love than a puppy, and we might accidentally support a puppy mill by adopting one from the wrong place. I also think we should get a rescue because last time, we got a puppy and had a very old dog, the puppy made the dogs life miserable and I don't want that to happen to our current dog who is getting old. My sister and Mom think we should get a puppy because, you can name a puppy anything you want, and by getting a rescue dog we may be inheriting someone else's problem. My sister wants a puppy because puppies are "to cute to resist". What would you get and what did you get? Were you happy with your decision?
