He might have been nice when he didn't think of Kai as a threat but once he saw that he was poking, or what seems like harming to Anataio, he went into protective mode. This perhaps means that he really loves you and wants to protect you. You might wanna carefully reintroduce the two and if he seems uneasy then be a little more careful in the future.
